When trials come your way, look for the pearls.

Quote confused: could be the bible or song lyrics…or both?

Sometimes things are just meant to be. Currently curled up on my lap is a tiny puppy. We took her to the vets and she is around 6-7weeks old. We aren’t sure of her breed, guesses are mainly around a combination of a Labrador and a springer.

We did want another puppy and was waiting until the new year when the weather was a little warmer. After all who wants to stand in the dark and rain with a puppy…apparently we do now. Even better she’s black so you can’t see her a night without a torch which she likes to dart away from and it’s rained constantly in the UK since she came home.

How this bundle came to be is a little different from the average ‘buy a dog’ story, so I’m sharing it on here. On Friday I went to buy some cider vinegar from a store after work (snobby I know). Outside was an absolutely useless security guard shouting at a man and inflaming the situation, the man was clearly on illegal substances. Shoppers walked past and avoided the area. I asked the man if he was okay (to the dismay of the security guard) I calmed him down and noticed a puppy peeping out of his coat. It was a cold night and I asked him if I could hold her. He had taken them from his girlfriend, the black ones hadn’t sold and he wanted his next hit.

The store has a huge car park in the front of it and you can see cars approaching. He was worried because (rightly so) the guard had called the Police. I explained that I would talk to the police for him and that shouting and fighting wasn’t going to help. He then confessed he had some ‘taken’ jewellery in his coat. He showed me a string of pearls. He wanted help and I said the police would be able to offer that.

The security guard left.

Police arrived and I as promised explained that this man had taken some things he wished he didn’t need to take. That he had some ‘borrowed items’ on him and that he had promised me he would go nicely with them. (All those years of calming down year eleven pupils had come in handy).

He was calmly arrested on several charges and also because he had killed one of the puppies in his coat (I was still holding the other one) it was either too cold or his erratic behaviour had harmed it. I knew I wasn’t going to hand over the ball of fluff in my hands. I followed the Police to the station and the man signed her over to me because “I like her, she’s alright” (nothing like a compliment from a puppy killing drug dealer to set your Friday evening up for success). I didn’t want her to go in to cells while they tried to get her to a rescue home and both the officers and myself were worried she might need be in need of her mum and therefore need a little more care.

I phoned the Mr and said ‘Hi I’m on my way home and I have a puppy on my lap’ he then organised the necessary bits we would need for that night and ‘as long as it isn’t a Dachshund’ we could keep her (one day I’ll get that sausage dog).

Until then we own a bitsa dog (breed: bit of this, bit of that), we stand in the rain outside only for her to wee inside and we all adore her.

After the stolen pearls in the mans pocket and my sons love of Pirates of the Caribbean her official name is #TheBlackPearl (the goodie ship) and we lovingly call her Pearl…or rather ‘No pearl don’t eat that’. To stare at cute puppy pictures check her out on instagram @fridgesays

The Saturday session #59

Welcome to our very last #thesatsesh of 2018. Myself and my cohost Hayley have decided to take our own mindful, present and positive advice and step away for the Christmas period. I will still blog weekly (my brain needs the therapy) so feel free to drop in but many of our linky regulars are hobby bloggers and we didn’t feel there would be a demand worthy of taking our eyes off our ever growing little people. They really do grow fast and the magic of such a time of year is something I want to soak up while I can (the children not the bloggers).

This leads me on effortlessly to my featured blogger this week; Mummy here and there. Sam is an honest and loyal mummy who puts pen to paper ( brain to keyboard) to give us little insights in to her world as a Mum and much more. This week Sam wrote about self care activities for December, here’s a link to all of her wonderful ideas. I can say enough how much I personally love this time of year but am also hugely aware that many families find this period of time hard financially, emotionally and well…just hard. I’m always astonished at how a small amount of ‘me time’ can have such a huge effect on my mental wellbeing and in turn the people around me. Therefore picking this post was a no brainer.

Hayley as always has also selected her featured blogger and you can click here to see who she has selected (it’s a good one).

So, before you link up I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has joined us over the year. I’ve learnt so much from the linky, read so many talented pieces and truly wish you all a wonderful new year.

The Saturday session #58

Thank you for joining us for week #58 of #thesatsesh its been a hell of a week, I’ve had some blog revelations, huge demands at work, the Christmas soul has been sucked out of me and then it rebirth today as we took the opportunity to get the decorations up ; seriously, what can’t be fixed with several packets of fairy lights, they are literally my happy place. The UK can be dull and this week dreary (call that torrential rain), add millions of little lights and the world seems to shimmer once more.

My featured blogger this week is the lovely Sophie from Old House in the Shires. She is a favourite blogger of mine, mainly because she has found her dream home, something we hope to do over the coming months. She also loves gardening and we are both teachers – win. This week Sophie hooked up a post all about transitions, I’ve picked it because whether our children have complex needs, specialist requirements or frankly they are just an average crazy five year old – the transitions that they need support through are crucial building blocks for the next learning stages. I deal with so many teenagers who lack resilience or the tools needed to be independent because they lacked positive transitions in early childhood. If you’re lying child free and this post doesn’t seem your thing, click the link anyway – Sophie’s blog is gloriously cliche and modern.

You can always pop over to Hayley’s blog and see who she has selected as her #thesatsesh featured blogger, or you can take a peek at the rules and join in this weeks linky.

Enjoy.

The Saturday session #57

Happy weekend all.

#57 opens the doors to the festive season; no panic here as its just another day with the family and one that always has its high points. This weekend i’m taking my five year old shopping and allowing him full responsibility for present buying. This will be a huge success and will be a practical demonstration of kindness/thoughtfulness or he will buy toys he wants and I’m not sure Nanny and Grandad will appreciate the Marvel figures…shall update you next week to how it goes. (pray for me)

I’m not sure anymore why I run this linky with the lovely Hayley (accept she’s a joy to work with – check out her featured blogger by clicking here), in the beginning it was a challenge but now its become a habit…then I read a blog like Isabel’s from Sustainable responsible living and my heart explodes with joy. I double dare you infinity to read her blog without learning something new. I LOVE LEARNING. Thus, she is my featured blogger this week – her tale of Avocado on toast is not like one you’ve ever read before. The origins of posh millennial food like limes and Avocado is analysed and with Isabel’s view of the world we are reeducated that this over price fruit…veg…green stuff, is in fact not as joyful as one would like to think. If you do nothing this weekend click here to read her wisdom on the mighty avocado (and I also agree with her, recently they are so mass produced they are tasteless). I love blogs like hers that open my mind to a more joyful way of living.

Thank you to everyone that is joining us this week, read the rules, click the blue box and lets kick off week fifty seven with a #thesatsesh smile. Enjoy.

The Saturday session #56

I like the number 56, it has a charm about it.

This week was a little calmer, although Black Friday once again reminds me that consumer Christmas is just around the corner. I will indulge little dude with a splash of what he has asked for from his list, but as far as everyone else goes – its experiences and memories this year. That means I’ve booked afternoon teas, theatre tickets, experiences and much more for the family. I just feel thats the essence of Christmas and family, even if I can’t always wrap it in a bow.

Hayley my cohost always selects a featured blogger from our wonderful selection of #thesatsesh writers, you can click here to see who she has picked this week – however I urge you to stay here and read all about Invisibility by the talented and clearly lovely Lisa. She is my talented featured blogger this week (grab yourself a badge from my sidebar hun) As always there is a humour in her words, but also an honest truth and an open heart as she reveals some truths about the location in which she met her partner and a hidden truth they carry. I was blown away with both the depth of her posts revelations but also the advice she gives that we can all be aware of over the festive season…if you never read another post, read one of mine, ops I mean – read this post. Seriously, just when I thought I couldn’t been anymore blown away by Lisa – this post takes her words and wisdom to new levels.

If you are joining us this week, have a read of the rules and click the blue box at the bottom of the page. Have a wonderful week all.

The Saturday Session #55

Thank you for joining us for week fifty five of #thesatsesh, feel free to use the hashtag on social media to promote what you are up to this weekend. I’m being rather exotic on Saturday mixing watching my son at Judo with a haircut for him in the afternoon – don’t be jealous.  I won’t type Sundays cleaning plans, they may make you feel inadequate about the lack of thrill in your own life.

As always you can see who Hayley has picked as her featured blogger (click here), or you can read about my choice. Kelly from Day dreams of a Mum who wrote a superb blog all about the little wins of life and so it was easy to pick my featured blogger. I loved the post because I do believe that whilst we all strive for the mountain tops of life, we often miss the view along the way. It also highlighted to me that individuals have different challenges to others, that what I may consider effortless another may find a struggle or unattainable. I’m also a huge fan of celebrating and think that there are so many wins in life if we choose to celebrate them. Tonight, I am certainly going to raise a glass to Kelly and her list of wins. Its a post that I think we can all grow and blossom from.

If you’d like to join us for all the fives, then read the rules below, click the blue box at the end of this post and read some awesome posts from a variety of talented bloggers. I’d also like to thank everyone who joined us last week, I really enjoyed reading your work.

The Saturday session #54

Welcome to another #thesatsesh blog, thanks for joining us and i’d like to take the opportunity wish you an awesome week ahead. I’m personally trying to keep November very present and calm. I’ve already seen the Christmas decorations in the shops and I refuse to have the last 60 days of the year swept up in a sea of tinsel. I’m making the most of what November has to offer…so far traffic jams, pumpkins and late nights at work…ooo and sparklers. I guess like most months the good and the bad.

As always my cohost Hayley has picked a featured blogger (click here to see who it is) or keep reading and see who I selected. This week Isabel from ‘Sustainable responsible living’ caught my eye, her post lit up the linky…(too corny? even for me) Okay, she wrote a post all about ‘being a lighthouse for others’ – a metaphor I adored. Reaching out and creating a positive and conscious life it what my life it all about, obviously I’m still in training pants, but its something I strive from. If your new to Isabel’s blog then its certainly worth a read, she solves environmental issues in a compassionate and kind manner – whats not to love! She is also not too hippy and operates in the real world so her results are achievable. This week I listened to a podcast that has shown me I need to stop eating meat, I’ve made little nudges to it, but I know in the next few months this is a goal I personally need to strive for. Gosh, being kind is exhausting! One thing that isn’t is Isabel’s view of the world #inspiring

Many thanks if you are rejoining us, new and shiny or just using us to read some awesome blogs. Blogger’s click the link below to start the party….or just click and read (I personally recommend a cup of tea to accompany)

The Saturday session #53

Its bonfire weekend in my village and I can not wait. This year we aren’t having friends and family over, instead we will be guests at a neighbours. I’m really looking forward to being the ‘visitor’ its my personal favourite, probably because I don’t have to rush the cleaning this weekend and then do it all over again when people leave. I love the procession, the anticipation and of course the fire works. We was also blessed with some pretty cute trick or treaters this week, so this townie chick may be embracing country life after all.

Hayley my cohost picks a featured blogger each week, but stick around to see who I selected. She’s a regular on the blog, who usually if not always joins us before we’ve even tweeted. She is a passionate mummy with many skills and in this post I discovered her children also have the gift of being bilingual. Spectrum Mum (Catie) discusses how to approach raising a multi talking house and also warns against the pitfalls. I never really mastered a linguist tongue at school and now regret the opportunity to embrace new cultures, in my defence my french teacher was terrifying and I got a B through fear, but the gift of a voice beyond the mother tongue isn’t something I can offer my little dude and so if I’m honest I read this post with envy. Like everything when it comes to raising little people Catie talks about the delicate balance needed, communication of rules, research and how to not overwhelm them…parenting is tough. However, Spectrum Mums post is awesome if you are able or thinking of jumping into a multitude of languages. Its well worth a read, her guidance as always is invaluable.

Many thanks if you are rejoining us, or if you simply enjoy the range of posts #thesatsesh community provide, please as always read the rules below and click the blue box (up to two posts from any genre, old or new are welcome).

The Saturday session #52

Week fifty two, the clocks go back GMT this weekend and its finally not summer time anymore, seriously – I’m cold. Light the candles, the fire and why not the heating as well…fluffy pjs, hot chocolate in a favourite mug…I AM READY. Hayley my cohost picked an awesome featured blogger for #thesatsesh this week, click here to see who she went for. Mine is better, seriously even Hayley wanted to pick her.

Pen from The Single Swan who often writes about her twinkle of a signet had our readers (well defo me and Hayley) in tears. Her post that I selected is about the metaphorical umbilical cord that follows child birth and never leaves. Pen has a talent for writing about relationships, there is brutal honesty cascading from each word. So, grab yourself a tissue and give it a read. Even if you haven’t got a child – read it anyway, honestly its that good a post. Pen is a writer that never lets me down with great content thats relevant.

Once you’ve clenched your thirst for wonderful writers, then join us yourself by clicking the blue box at the end of the post and of course refreshing yourself with the rules and regulations of #thesatsesh linky. Thanks for taking the time to join us or rejoin us. We really do appreciate and strive to create a community of variation and quality.

The Saturday session #50

Nifty fifty…i’m so excited, we need to celebrate. fifty weeks (give or take a cheeky holiday) of me being consistent in my blogging approach. My Mr describes our relationship as a balloon, in essence I’m the balloon – a spontaneous, hot air, rising high without little thought to consequences, whilst he is my string. Solid; holds me still and stops be floating away. So for me to be consistent for fifty weeks is a huge deal. I’m in total gratitude to my cohost – my string on #thesatsesh the mindful hands full Hayley (you can check out her featured blogger here too) I’d also like to thank all of our regular bloggers who join us week after week, our newbie #thesatsesh peeps and of course you for reading.

For week fifty I felt like not only did I need a ‘fridgesays’ vibe post as my featured blogger, I also needed a blogger I admire. Mrs rose tinted life is so my kind of lady, I know one day we will sit down and have a glass (or several together), her post on cough cures made me chuckle and also resonated with me. As a family we try to reduce chemicals where we can, reuse, recycle and make a little less global destruction on this planet, we also don’t really take medication. I say ‘really’ as I have delivered my children via C-section, but we avoid prescription medication where we can. We use most of the cough cures that her elderly neighbour mentioned and I strongly believe that most cures are found in nature. Well done to the lovely Berni, she is a wonderful human and joyful artist, blogger, BnB host…and so much more.

Jump in to week fifty and read the rules below if you can’t remember the small details. Once again, thank you for joining us and happy week 50!
