Quote by Rob Hill (sorry for the reflection of my PJ top in the photo)
Our last holiday was in 2011, it was pre little people and had the added sparkle of an engagement ring.
Since then life has taken over and although we have had breaks and fun a long the way, my case has been discarded in the loft whilst grown up priorities have kidnapped my bank account. This year will be different and I can’t wait.
However, my life aside – imagine a life where you don’t need a vacation because frankly life is already so diverse, incorporates travel and new cultures, where you enjoy your job and don’t feel the need to stop because maybe you already have the balance of calm and relaxation and new and exciting experiences.
This is living.
I feel so very sorry for anyone who hates every working day and lives for that one day off or a week away at some point, that is exhausting. That is surviving and the world is full of so many opportunities, choices and options that to be in a world as I’ve just described surely leads to ill health a life that is unfulfilled and even an early death.
I’d love to say when I’m doing house work Disney bluebirds sit on my shoulder, that I’ve never spent hours in AnE with a sickly child or that dark times haven’t knocked on my door (damn me for being polite, popping the kettle on and inviting the dark times inside my home) of course life isn’t always joyful, if it was we’d take it for granted and wouldn’t appreciate the wonderful moments however small and precious. Many highly successful individuals only reached their dreams due to lack and the desire to improve their current situation rather than wallowing in it – not to mention huge amounts of work and dedication plus working beyond other peoples expectations and perhaps further than they felt they could at the time…but there is a crucial word in this quote.
‘Goal’ something to aim for, something to aspire towards and perhaps never fully achieved BUT a focus for attention and a direction that I am striving for. Sometimes the journey is the joy, the excitement and the thrill to get to a life where a vacation isn’t necessary may seem far fetch, not currently there yet, I can’t tell you the answer but think I’m a step closer by balancing life’s darker days and opening the curtains; shining the light on the things that I do have, showing gratitude for the experiences, tastes and sights my world has experienced
Perhaps it’s time to review your goals in life, what you’d like or where you want to go…or may be like me you’ve found it in this quote.
Sounds like you are in a good place. Nothing is worse then dreading or counting down ours to escape situation you are not fund off. Plus if you enjoy something you are more likely to be motivated X #marvellousMondays

Oh I love the motivated slant in your comment, so are so right. I don’t think I am always in a physically good place I just chose to look at the positives…life is complex enough without wallowing.

So so true. The one thing I knew I wanted in life was a job I loved because you tend to spend so much time there, and I was lucky enough to find one in my chosen career. Of course, now my kids are my dream and I’m lucky enough to be able to split both! Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

Seriously – can we meet up? I would love to put the world to rights with you over a few drinks (ya know, gin, J&D and a wiggle on the dance floor). Wise head on those shoulders and such a big heart which most likely comes from poop from the sky landing on you a fair few times. LOVE this and I love the positivity it promotes! You rock. Big love! xxx

So well said. I completely agree with you that there is so much opportunity to create a life with balance that is enjoyable and doesn’t require us to just survive to the next day off. The secret is not waiting for anyone to create it for you, it takes a leap of faith, planning resources, and setting goals. Although I have trained my bluebirds to come visit me every morning without fail, such a big help they are 😉 Great post #MarvMondays

It’s taken me a while to discover that I actually love teaching! Ok it can be a total drain on your sanity and wallet but it does bring me moments of….”I have actually made a difference here…” and that is priceless. Finding the right school has helped too. As you get older you realise that the life that is stressful at times is also amazing at others and that is living. Worry about what you have rather than what you haven’t. #thesatsesh

I have always envied my mother who at 15 years old found something she truly loved and made it into her career. At 71 is still doing it because she wants to. How good is that? Having said that I love being a SAHM and it’s lucky I do as there is no vacation from that 😂

Haha I just swap the job for SAHM in the holidays lol, that’s the downside of full time – that said, I wouldn’t change it

Love this post and good luck with it all – moving from surviving to thriving is something that I am very much working to after jacking in the corporate life and striking out to design a life that means I am connected with my children and wife – I love the quote that ‘A life without goals is like trying to watch the television with someone else holding the controls’ #TheSatSesh

Wouldn’t that be fab! Definitely, something to aspire too. I am trying to focus on balance at the moment as I think that if I could get the right balance between my day job, being wife/mum, blogging and me then I would be very close to never needing a vacation! #thesatsesh

Oh I hear you. Life for us has been a particular challenge this year. Yes I get fed up the same as others when the washer breaks down, the dishwasher won’t start and the sun screens fall off my windows (all of these have happened) but I am aware that actually our life is pretty damn good. There are much worse things that can happen. I am filled with gratitude for every precious moment we have had.
And I am a big believer in making the changes you need to make you happy every day whether that is a new job, hiring a cleaner, or dropping everything and heading for the beach.

It does. I use to do a job I hated when I worked for my Dad (prior to teaching )
I cried in the car to work everyday and he would say I was acting like a child…I was 22 🙂

This is a great quote – it’s so important to enjoy what you do everyday , although there will always be bad days and aspects that you don’t like. But however much you love your work, I think it’s always good to have a holiday from it, a change of scene, change of routine, time to recharge. I enjoy teaching, but we need our holidays or we’d just get burned out! #satsesh
